Sustainability is a core part of Pooltec’s philosophy. As a subsidiary of the Utz Group, Pooltec shares the Group’s ambitious environmental goals and relies on state-of-the-art technology to conserve resources and reduce emissions. Our cleaning services are designed to be climate-friendly, from energy generation to waste reduction, we take a green approach at every step.

The challenge of climate protection
We take climate protection seriously. Since 2022, our operations have been climate neutral, as we offset all unavoidable CO₂e emissions through certified climate protection projects.
Together with the Swiss foundation myclimate, we measure our CO₂ footprint according to scientific standards and compensate for it through high-quality projects. myclimate confirms that Pooltec AG makes a sustainable contribution to voluntary climate protection by offsetting a defined amount of CO₂ in climate projects.
For our customers, this means: Your containers are cleaned in a climate-neutral process, a valuable benefit for your company’s environmental footprint.
100% Renewable Energy by 2030
The entire Utz Group and therefore Pooltec as well aims to cover its total energy needs from renewable sources no later than 2030. Already today, we produce part of our electricity ourselves and source the remaining demand as sustainably as possible. Step by step, we will transition to exclusively renewable energy by 2030. This shift to green electricity, combined with continuous improvements in efficiency, reduces the CO₂ share of our energy to zero and makes our services even more environmentally friendly.
In-House Solar Power
On the roof of our facility, we operate a large-scale photovoltaic system that supplies a significant share of the electricity we need. This allows us to substantially reduce the CO₂ footprint of every cleaning job. Using solar energy makes us less dependent on fossil sources and directly lowers emissions on site.
In the future, we aim to cover our entire electricity demand with renewable energy.
Energy Efficiency
Our systems are equipped with heat recovery units and heat pumps that reuse the waste heat generated during the washing process. For example, cold incoming water is preheated by passing it alongside the hot exhaust air and warm rinse water, saving heating energy, as the water already reaches part of the required temperature without additional energy input. This intelligent energy use significantly reduces electricity and heat demand. In addition, our photovoltaic system helps ensure that the remaining electricity needs are covered by clean solar power. Our goal is to use energy as efficiently as possible and continuously reduce the CO₂ emissions per cleaned container.
Water and Chemical Savings
Our washing processes conserve both water and detergents. Thanks to the cascade system in our washing lines, water is reused multiple times instead of being discharged after each phase, significantly reducing overall consumption. In fact, we have already achieved around 30% water savings compared to conventional cleaning methods. At the same time, we use fewer chemicals: optimized dosing and continuous monitoring of detergent concentration allow us to reduce detergent use by up to 70%. Lower chemical consumption protects the environment and also improves workplace safety.
Circular Economy and Recycling
For us, sustainability also means keeping materials in circulation. Defective plastic containers are not simply discarded, they are carefully sorted out and fed into the recycling process. In cooperation with Georg Utz AG, we ensure that worn-out containers are reprocessed and used as recycled material in new products. In this way, we actively support the circular economy and reduce plastic waste. Customers who have their Utz containers cleaned with us can be confident that any damaged units are returned to the material cycle.

Is Pooltec’s cleaning service truly climate neutral?
Yes. Since 2022, we have been operating completely climate neutral. This means we offset all unavoidable CO₂ emissions generated during cleaning, drying, and transport through certified myclimate projects. Upon request, we can even provide documentation confirming the CO₂ compensation for your specific order.
How does the photovoltaic system reduce CO₂ emissions?
Our solar installation on the facility roof supplies a large share of our electricity needs. Every kilowatt hour of solar power replaces electricity from the grid (which may partially come from fossil sources). As a result, the CO₂ footprint of each washing process is significantly reduced because far less conventional energy is required. In short: thanks to solar power, we clean with substantially fewer CO₂ emissions.
How does Pooltec save water and chemicals?
We use a four-stage washing system based on the cascade principle, where rinse water is reused for the pre-wash. This greatly reduces the amount of fresh water we need to add. We also use intelligent detergent dosing: sensors continuously monitor the cleaning solution and keep it at the optimal concentration. This prevents overdosing and allows us to reduce chemical consumption by up to 70%. This combination of a water reuse cycle and smart dosing control makes our process extremely efficient.
Does Pooltec support the circular economy for plastic containers?
Absolutely. We work closely with all Utz production sites and partner recycling centers on all recycling matters. Defective or worn-out plastic containers are collected separately and sent for recycling instead of being discarded. The material flows back into the production cycle of the Utz Group, where it can be reused in new products. This way, we close the material loop and help reduce plastic waste.
